Australia's first underwater hotel is now open at the Great Barrier Reef
You can now experience sleeping under the sea at the Great Barrier Reef at on your next family holiday to Australia with your older children. Reefsuites opened on 1 December and are located on the refurbished pontoon which is part of Reefworld at Hardy Reef. The refurbishment of the $10 million Reefworld pontoon by Cruise Whitsundays was supported by the Queensland Government’s Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

Children need to be at least 10 years old to stay at Reefsuites, making it a perfect experience for your teens or teens. The one downside is that this experience is not cheap for a family as room starts at AUD $799 per person per night for 2 people in a room or AUD $1,199 for one person in a room.

Swags cost $595 for 2 people sharing or $795 per person for 1 person sharing a shag and include all meals. Children need to be a little older to stay at Reefsleep and must be at least 12 years old. There is a maximum of 30 guests at Reefsleep each night on the Reefworld pontoon.
How to get there
The two nearest airports are in the nearby town of Proserpine and on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. International flights arriving into Australia’s major cities can connect with domestic flights to the Whitsundays.
The Whitsunday Coast Airport is located in Proserpine, with daily direct services from Brisbane, twice weekly flights from Sydney and Melbourne and connecting flights from all major Australian cities with Jetstar and Virgin Australia. From the Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine) it is just a short 30 minute drive into Airlie Beach.
